The Jack Stone Company, founded in 1932 by John A Stone Sr., was primarily involved in commercial electrical engineering and construction; largely for the US Navy. In 1934, Jack Stone Lighting & Electrical was formed as a division to maintain and service commercial lighting in the Washington DC area. Shortly after WWII, John Sr. created a subsidiary called the Jack Stone Sign Company and began manufacturing on-premise signs and displays. John Sr. ran both companies until 1970, at which time he handed the company over to his son John Stone Jr. John Jr. expanded the company by focusing on the growth of the Sign division, picking up large municipal contracts such as DC Metro, regional airports and commercial contracts such as Giant Food Stores and Roy Rogers Restaurants.
Today the day-to-day operations of both divisions, now called Jack Stone Companies, are run by John Jr.’s five sons: Chris, Todd, Trevor, Spencer and JP. The third generation of Stones are not only building on Jack Stone Companies’ legacy of quality, but are also focused on the cutting edge of technology and trends in the sign and lighting industries. Jack Stone Companies see the future of the business heading towards the commercial use of LEDs. The benefits of increased LED use are longer product life and reductions in both maintenance and power consumption.
Headquartered in a 46,000 sq. ft. facility in Landover, MD, Jack Stone Lighting & Electrical serves the Mid-Atlantic region and its staff is known as experts in the usage of LEDs.
Historically the lighting and electrical division has focused on general site lighting maintenance. Jack Stone Lighting & Electrical has provided night lighting surveys for outages for over 30 years. Any outages recorded during the survey
can then be repaired. Typical repairs include high reach light repairs, light pole replacements, underground faults, and electrical panel work. In recent years Jack Stone Lighting & Electrical has noticed a shift in the industry from fixture repairs to LED conversions. Our parking lot lighting and electrical maintenance service has significantly grown in the last few years due to the high volume of LED light conversion requests. In response to these requests, Jack Stone Lighting & Electrical focuses on educating and guiding consumers through the LED conversion process. A key education tool is our unique showroom where clients can come in and visually compare traditional parking lot lighting to numerous LED equivalent brands.
Outdoor commercial parking lots for office buildings, auto dealerships, malls and shopping centers tend to be prime candidates for LED conversions because of the large quantity of lights and the savings that result from making the switch to more energy efficient fixtures. To assist customers with regional power company rebates, Jack Stone Lighting & Electrical is a Pepco, BG&E, Potomac Edison and Dominion Electric Approved Trade Ally. Many consumers are unaware that most power companies offer consumers large monetary incentives to convert to LEDs as they too benefit from the 60%-80% power reduction resulting from an LED conversion. When it comes to LED lighting in new construction or in LED conversions we guarantee our customers the most cost effective lighting solutions in the Mid-Atlantic region.
For three generations spanning over 80 years, the Jack Stone Companies have developed a lasting legacy by combining old world craftsmanship, current technology and diligent service. Our commitment to these principles has enabled Jack Stone Companies to be the top choice for custom signs and lighting.
